Our Students

House Athletics Carnivals

Bigger and Better Than Ever

    • This year, our House Carnival has expanded to be held over three action-packed days in September as follows:

      • Tuesday 3rd September – Field Events for selected Year 3 – Year 6 students
      • Thursday 5th September – Junior House Carnival for Pre-primary to Year 2 students (plus informal Kindy races)
      • Friday 6th September – Senior House Carnival for Year 3 – Year 6 students.

We’ve gathered together all of the information you could need or want to engage with and enjoy the Carnivals!

Support your House

Everyone at Riva is a member of one of our four Houses – Argyle (Blue), Beeliar (Green), Nara (Purple) and Swan (Gold). All students, families, supporters and staff are invited and encouraged to show and wear their house colours with pride, and cheer on the team. There will be points awarded for best cheering, best presented House Bay, and best-dressed supporters.

We recommend the wearing of House Polo Shirts and then accessorise, accessorise! School hats must be worn (can be removed for events). We also strongly encourage students to bring and apply sunscreen throughout the day.

Please ensure that your child’s name is marked on all of their clothing.

Shoes

It is a requirement, and consistent with the rules and conduct of our Interschool Sporting Association, that shoes are worn at all times for all events. Students will not be permitted to participate barefoot.

The Program(s)

Our Carnivals are designed around maximum participation, students actively involved in events and activities across the whole day – being busy, achieving, and contributing to their house. This approach also makes it easier to track the action as spectators and follow the program.

We have developed schedules of events for each of the Carnival Days, which we endeavour to adhere to as much as possible – please use these as a guide, though understand that we cannot give specific timing or guarantee a certain event for a certain time.

Lunch Orders

Special lunch orders are available to participating students, families and staff on the respective main carnival days.

Junior House Carnival Lunch Order Form (Kindy – Year 2 students, Thursday 5th September)

Senior House Carnival Lunch Order Form (Year 3 – Year 6 students, Friday 6th September)

Please ensure that your order is completed on the correct form, for the correct day, and that payment accompanies the order, either in cash in an envelope, or to the school bank account (details at the bottom of the form). Orders close on Monday 1st of September. Orders will not be accepted after this day.

On the Carnival Day, orders can be made only from the special Carnival Lunch Menu for participating years. The rest of the school not attending the carnival can access the regular lunch order service through the Spriggy Schools App.

Special Services – Boost Juice, Coffee Van, Whippy Van

On each of the main carnival days, we have arranged for Boost Juice, a Coffee Van and an Icecream Van to be onsite through until the conclusion of lunchtime. Parents / spectators only may make purchases at these services, and then deliver them to students at recess or lunch. Students will not be served at these stalls.

Supervision

The Carnival(s) are regular school days, with students under the care and management of the school and our staff at all times. Parents and spectators are not to enter House Bays. Please use the designated spectator areas. Students may be dismissed to parents / families for lunch, if you wish.

Part of the Action

We’ve set-up several spectator zones to ensure that you get the best view of the events, are close enough for every exciting detail, and, at times, are literally in the middle of it all! Please check before moving from the area, keep small children in sight, and do not cross the track when events are in progress.

When parking, please be respectful of our neighbours and community, as well as all road and local traffic laws. You may park in any available school carpark, the carpark of the Novelli Pavilion, or available roadside parking bays. Please note all parking restrictions signs, yellow line no parking zones, and do not park on private verges.

The Map below shows the layout for our Junior and Senior House Carnivals.

Dismissal

The Junior Carnival should conclude at lunchtime, after which, students will return to class. Should parents wish to take students home at this time, they must be signed out in the House Bay with the teacher in charge, and a leave pass presented while exiting through the school administration only.

Respect, Inclusion and Achievement

Our Carnivals are designed to be fun, uplifting celebrations and opportunities for our students. Please model and reflect our school values in respecting decisions made, building up your team without taking from others, and treating Novelli Reserve as an extended classroom of our school (no pets, no drones, nothing that makes clouds).

We can’t wait to share the excitement of our Carnivals with you. If you have any questions, please contact riva.ps@education.wa.edu.au
