Our Students

Riva Revue

Friday 29th November 2024

What is it?

The Riva Revue is our Open Night and Concert all in one, and celebrates the amazing achievement and work of our students during this year at Riva Primary School.

Who is it for?

Riva Revue is for all students in Pre-primary to Year 6. Kindergarten students, due to sharing classrooms, are preparing their own open days and performances, and have scheduled these. All families and students are of course welcome to come in on the “main” day, of Friday 29th November 2024.

Open Classrooms – all students PP – Year 6, from 4.00pm – 4.45pm

Our classrooms are open. During this time, please accompany your child/ren to their classroom, where they will show you their work from throughout the year, maybe engage you in a favourite activity, challenge you to a game, or together, create something. Look, discover, learn and celebrate their year. You may stay for as little or as long as you like, but be sure to leave enough time, as the classroom doors need to close at 4.45pm, to get ready for the Concert. During this time, head down to the oval, for students to join their class group, and parents and friends to find a good viewing spot.

In addition to visiting your child’s classroom, come for a browse at:

  • The gallery of student art on display in our Art Room (Blue Block);
  • The amazing Science projects and work on display in the Science Lab (Blue Block).. and
  • Have a go with some of our skill and game sessions, with our Health and Physical Education specialist, Mr Batt – look for the set-up on the grassed area in front of the library.

Community Concert – featuring performances from all PP – Year 6 students.

Students need to be on the oval (Novelli Reserve) seated in their classroom groups and ready for the concert to start at 5.00pm. The classroom seating will be marked, and staff will assist in guiding.

Parents, families, friends and community find a spot near the Riva PS Amphitheatre, and pull up a rug, picnic blanket, or some camping chairs, and get ready for the Concert (it’s bring your own seats). The map shows the designated areas for seating (all BYO), with the area at the front reserved for those on rugs/ blankets / ground, and then those bringing chairs to sit behind.

From 5.00pm, it’s all eyes on stage.

Student costume requirements / suggestions

For all students in Pre-primary to Year 6, it would be appreciated if students could dress according to the suggested themes and items:

Pre-primary – Inanay

Singing in the language of the First Nations Yorta Yorta people, we will accompany this beautiful song with tapping sticks. Wear all black. We will create a yarn headband in Indigenous colours at school to complete the outfit.

Year 1 – This Little Light of Mine

We’ll shine our light all around the world as we sing in English, Noongar, Punjabi and Spanish. Wear something white, silver or gold. We will make headbands at school to complete the outfit.

Year 2 – Rock ‘n’ Roll Medley

We love rock and roll! Find your coolest 1950s inspired gear and get ready to rock around the clock.

Year 3 – Best Day of My Life

It’s a great day to drum along to a catchy song! Wear your own cultural dress, a bright and cheerful outfit or something that just makes you happy.

Year 4 – Eye of the Tiger

This classic song gets a Riva re-mix with drums, recorders and singing. Wear orange and black  – we will create a tiger headpiece at school to complete the look.

Year 5 – Riva Rap

Wear baggy clothes, backwards caps and your coolest shoes for this hip-hop inspired piece. We will create some Riva ‘bling’ at school to complete the look.

Year 6 – Redwood Grove

Our senior students will play us home, performing this piece for percussion ensemble. Wear your choice of denim and white.

Supervision

During the Rivua Revue “Concert” portion of the evening, from 5.00pm until approximately 6.00pm, students from Pre-primary to Year 6 are in their class groups, supervised by school staff and remain with the school until the conclusion of the whole concert. Students will be dismissed to the care of parents / carers at the conclusion of the concert performance.

The perfect end – Food Truck Fiesta

Following the conclusion of the Concert, we invite all to stay and spend some time with a meal, a treat, or a picnic as the sun sets on our year. We have a range of Food Trucks joining us on the oval for the Riva Revue, and staying on for a little while after.
